i. Saalumarada Thimmakka, an Indian environmentalist hailing from Karnataka, has gained recognition for her remarkable efforts in planting and caring for 385 banyan trees along a 4 km stretch between Hulikal and Kudur. Her extensive tree-planting endeavors extend to nearly 8000 other trees, earning her the esteemed National Citizens Award of India and the prestigious Padma Shri in 2019.
ii. Moirangthem Loiya, a devoted environmentalist from Manipur, dedicated 17 years of his life to the restoration of the Punshilok forest. Sacrificing his job, he undertook the responsibility of rejuvenating 300 acres of forest land, introducing a diverse array of trees, including bamboo, oak, Ficus, teak, jackfruit, and Magnolia. The revitalized forest now boasts over 250 plant varieties, including 25 bamboo species, and has become a thriving habitat for a wide range of animal species.
